An idea pulled from a truck stop, worn Off Broadway

To costume an off-Broadway play directed by Kevin Newbury and written by Todd Almond, who stars alongside Courtney Love, attention needs to be on the details.

Award-winning film & theatre designer Paul Carey creatively shaped this mystery where love is altered by unexpected fate. He needed the perfect vintage tee.

That’s where I entered.

Stage left.

The audience had to feel Todd Almond’s character, before a single line of dialogue was uttered. His backstory needed the right worn-in vintage tee.

Inspired by the truck stop diner’s and locals bars that pepper small town USA, specifically citing Route 66, I worked directly with Key Artist Paul Carey to develop an original graphic. We worked together to hone in on exactly the time in Almond’s character’s life the shirt had to come from. The color story was specific, the reference needed to read quickly.
